Someone once said that if you follow your dreams they will take you further in life than you can ever imagine.
My-Ishia Cason-Brown has long embraced that outlook, and seen her dreams guide her along a path of up-and-coming stardom as a result. The Detroit native has been especially blessed lately to benefit from the opportunities in the film industry that have flourished throughout Michigan since the state passed the the most generous filmmaking tax incentives in the nation in April 2008.
Most recently, Cason-Brown has been featured in such major motion pictures as Meet Monica Velour, starring Kim Cattrall and directed by Keith Bearden. In this mov ie, she was cast as Jazelle. Cason-Brown also appeared as a Muslim receptionist in a doctor's office in Gran Torino, the box-office hit starring and directed by Clint Eastwood. As if the opportunity to work alongside Eastwood wasn't amazing enough, he actually tapped Cason-Brown on her shoulder after being filmed in a scene with her and commented, Good job, young lady!
In addition to her growing body of work on the big screen, Cason-Brown worked as a stand-in on the set of 'Highland Park', 'Little Murder', 'Game of Death' and the TNT television movie "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story." This afforded her the chance to learn from three-time Emmy Award-winning director Thomas Carter as he directed Cuba Gooding Jr., Kimberly Elise and Aunjanue Ellis.
My-Ishia is a versitile actress and approaches every role with a strong, and convincing commintment. She has made her mark in Detroit's independent community. Starring in movies such as "Lost in the Future" written and directed by Aaron Russman, "420 the Movement" written by Adrena Hale and directed by Rubin Witmore II, " Power of Flight" , "Deployment," "Tranquilty," a cast member of the comedy entertainment show " Hand TV" and "Shock Value" which won third place at the DWIFF 2009 just to name a few.
Her new endeavour is "Serum" a short film which she wrote and is starring in as Nia, currently in production.
In Chicago, My-Ishia landed a major print ad with Brunswick Family Center Bowling Lanes and she can be seen in the 5 Hour Energy Drink and Solarizer commercials.
Cason-Brown has appeared on stage for the likes of the Detroit Repertory Theatre in "Unspoken Prayers," in which she was awarded Best Actress for her performance, and in "Cheat" and "Valley Song." She performed in "Diva Daughters DuPree" for the Plowshares Theater Company, a Detroit rendition that won Kim Euell the Theodore Ward Prize for African American Playwriting. Cason-Brown was in "Mule Bone" and "He is Christmas" for Plowshares as well. She was in "Old Settler" at the Boarshead Theatre in Lansing, Michigan, and in "A Christmas Carol" at the Meadow Brook Theatre in Rochester, Michigan.
Cason-Brown began her formal training in acting at Oakland University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in theatre performance. She went on to study with action-movie favorite Bill Duke at the African American Film Festival Actor's Boot Camp, with Christopher Bondy at the Dramatic Arts Studio of Michigan, and during a TVI Actor's Studio intensive workshop when in Los Angeles.
As Cason-Brown continues along a professional journey that appears so promising, she only gets more excited about where the path of following her dreams will take her.
